The Last Hurrah

Last night, our entire family gathered together one more time before Tim and Tami's family left for Colorado. The kids had a great time playing together. It is always a little bittersweet, though, knowing that the time is short and that we have to say goodbye again. At the moment, their family is still enroute and we're already missing them. But, oh, we're so thankful that they made the trip to spend Christmas with us. Christmas just isn't the same when we are not together. We made plenty of happy memories during the last week and we are so grateful for that!

Christmas Memories

We had such a great day yesterday. We enjoyed the early morning here at home with our family of five, then headed to Hanford for a big breakfast. We sang carols, opened a few gifts and ate some more. Very fun! We came home for a couple of hours and then everyone came here for dinner and more fun. Mom and Dad's family gift of the Wii was put to good use all evening. We are so spoiled!

I took a ton of pictures yesterday (are you surprised?) and thought I'd just post some of my favorites. There are a lot of them!

This was one of my favorite parts of the entire day. Mom played Christmas carols on the harp while everyone sang along. Beautiful!

Christmas Morning

We woke up bright and early on Christmas morning - thanks to three eager children! We had a great time discovering what was in our stockings, then opened presents. We had a great time together!

Nathan loved the book that Beth chose for him. Here he is giving her a thank you hug!

Allie's collection of Fancy Nancy books continues to grow!

I have decided that the best gift Nathan could give me for Christmas would be to actually look at the camera when I'm trying to take pictures!!!

Christmas Eve

Tonight we went to a beautiful Christmas Eve service at Ryan and Angie's church, then we all headed to their house for dinner. It was delicious! The kids had a great time playing together and the rest of us enjoyed chatting for awhile. It was a very nice Christmas Eve!

Ainsley and Allie are always buddies!

Joshua and Beth are glad to see each other again!

Zachary is all about Cara - they're inseparable!

Here are the men - well, most of them, anyway!

We tried to get a quick picture of all of the kids. That is always a challenge! We'll keep trying!

Fun with Cousins

We had a great time at our house yesterday afternoon. All of the cousins spent the afternoon with us. The weather was nice, so the kids spent a lot of time shooting baskets and playing in the backyard. When we needed distractions, we made chocolate playdough and then popped popcorn! Both activities were met with interest from all eight of the kids!

Watching the popcorn pop was great fun!

Welcome Wagon

On Monday night, we gathered at the Amtrak station in Hanford to welcome our family from Colorado. They had a long travel day - a flight from Denver to L.A., then riding the bus to Bakersfield, and finally the train to Hanford. It was fun to surprise them at the station - they weren't expecting everyone to be there!

Before their arrival...

and after their arrival!

We headed to Grandpa and Grandma's house for a yummy dinner and enjoyed being together again!

Back in the Swing of Things...

Finally... we are healthy again! Both Nathan and Allie were sick for 3-4 days, then I joined them. Thankfully, Phil was home for the weekend and took care of everything. He is so good to me! We are still praying that Beth and Phil stay healthy. Here's a brief update of life at our house during the past week (in no particular order!)...

We're making grocery lists. We get to host my entire family for Christmas dinner this year. We're very excited about it. Today Allie helped me make a grocery list. She is becoming a good little speller already!

Rewind a bit to last week... here is sweet Allie after her Christmas program. Even though Daddy couldn't be there (he was in Minneapolis), both Grandma and Great-Grandma were there. So was Grandpa Tos, but he didn't make the photo op! (Allie woke up with a fever the next day and missed the remaining three days of school - she was so sad!)

The girls helped make Christmas cookies yesterday. They did most of the work - and Nathan at most of their efforts! It's fun to see them get involved in the kitchen.

Girard Family Christmas

Since Phil's parents are returning to Michigan this week, we celebrated Christmas at Deb's house last night. We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed some time together. It was a fun way to begin the Christmas season!

Grandma's California girls...

Nathan spent the entire evening wearing Jack's firefighter costume!

Beth is longing for a dog of her own. She loved playing with Kelsey.

Jack spent most of his time playing with his new dinosaur.

Nathan loves his grandpa.

Allie's Field Trip to the Christmas Tree Farm

After a very foggy morning, the first grade class was able to go to the Christmas tree farm. Phil went along with Allie's class and she was thrilled about that! The kids enjoyed riding the train, learning about tree flocking, and being together!
